The London Telegraph reports on a new study by British institutions Cardiff University, Birmingham University and Trinity College suggesting that postpartum psychosis may have a genetic cause. The study looked at the DNA of families in which at least one woman had experienced postpartum psychosis and found that women with a particular recessive gene were susceptible. The study will be published in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

The paper also reported that a separate study has found that as many as 17,000 late-onset cases of postpartum depression go undetected each year in Britain. The results are due to be published in the Bipolar Disorders journal.
